inside the savannah candy kitchen

watercolor & acrylic, 16”x16”, 2022

This piece was created as a mock advertisement for the Savannah Candy Kitchen in Savannah, Georgia. I was inspired by the works of Jessie Wilcox Smith and her signature water babies.

I wanted this piece to convey a strong sense of wonder of a child in a candy store but through my eyes of the life in Savannah. When I first visited Savannah in 2019, I was in awe of the architecture and history, but I had never been into a classic candy store that smelled of freshly made pralines, gophers, and popcorn. My awe was hard to contain and each time I walk by this shop, I find myself smiling and going in just to see what they have created.

This piece was created with watercolor and acrylic.
